Nagpur: Expecting Nagpur Airport to become a major logistics hub, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), an off-campus center in Nagpur, has launched an aviation logistics course among new programs aimed at training a skilled labor for future employment opportunities. The institute is also launching a full-time program in Food and Agribusiness Management starting in the 2022-23 academic year.
These specialized programs will focus on business operations in the food and agribusiness sector as well as supply chain and logistics. Students domiciled in Nagpur enjoy a 25% quota in all academic programs at the Wathoda Campus of Symbiosis International.
Union Minister and City MP Nitin Gadkari, who was instrumental in bringing Symbiosis to Nagpur, has often said that developing Nagpur and its outskirts into a multi-modal logistics hub can create thousands of jobs. Although the minister’s claims have been taken with a grain of salt by critics and citizens, educational institutes seem to be working in this direction to create a pool of talent.
“Looking at the expected market demand for talent in these streams and the relevance of this to the region, SIBM, which is currently offering its flagship MBA program at the Nagpur campus, is offering several new offerings from the next academic year (2022-23),” said Shrirang Altekar, director of the institute.
The MBA (food and agribusiness management) will start from the academic year 2022-23. “This is a highly specialized program, focused on business operations in the food and agribusiness sector. These sectors will need skilled managers to handle both back-end and front-end operations. This program will seek to meet those needs,” he said.
Post Graduate Diploma in Aviation Logistics (PGDAL) and MBA (Executive) for working professionals have already been approved for SIBM Nagpur by Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
“The goal of the PGDAL program is to build students’ employability skills, enable them to prepare for careers in a fast-growing industry, and provide a trained and skilled workforce to the industry. aviation. Other sectors like logistics and supply chain are also likely to be the most critical elements of business operations in the years to come,” he said.
Altekar added that Nagpur is also well positioned to become a major freight hub, taking advantage of the city’s strategic geographic location, strong multi-modal connectivity with major economic hubs in the country and considering a governmental environment and supportive policy. “Nagpur Airport itself is likely to become an air logistics hub, on the Delhi and Hyderabad airport routes. This should create several job opportunities for skilled professionals familiar with this sector,” he said.
