TUYÊN QUANG — An international hot air balloon festival is to be held next month in the mountainous northern province of Tuyên Quang.
The event aims to introduce foreign and domestic tourists to the beauty of the region, while building momentum for the recovery of tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic.
To prepare for the festival, Ballooning Media – a company that has organized several similar events in Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan (China) and the Netherlands – organized test flights of hot air balloons in Nguyễn Tất Thành Square in Tuyên Quang City, and the Nà Tông village stadium in the Lâm Bình district.
Based on the test flights, the final decision on the date and venue of the festival will be made by the Provincial People’s Committee and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
It is expected to have around 15 hot air balloons at the festival.
According to the deputy head of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department of Tuyên Quang, Nguyễn Văn Hòa, the festival is an opportunity for tourists, especially Vietnamese and foreigners, to learn more about the province.
“The province has declared that the development of tourism should be one of the decisive objectives in the period 2020-25,” he said.
In addition to promoting tourism products covering culture, community, eco-leisure and adventure, Tuyên Quang also pays close attention to creating new and interesting experiences. They include rowing on bamboo rafts and enjoying then singing on Nà Nưa Lake in the Tân Trào National Special Historical Relic Area and kayaking on Tuyên Quang Reservoir.
The province has set a goal to welcome more than three million tourists by 2025 and create jobs for more than 25,000 people. By 2030, the number will exceed 5.5 million tourists and create jobs for over 35,000 workers. —VNS
